ANITA GARVIN

b. February 11, 1907; d. July ?, 1994

Appeared with Laurel and Hardy in 11 films.
Other notable films: Dynamite (1929), Trent's Last Case (1929), and numerous two-reel comedies.

After starting in show business as a Mack Sennett Bathing Beauty (at age 12!), Garvin went on to become one of the most dependable comediennes in films. With her trademark slicked-back jet-black hair, her style was a disarming juxtaposition of vampy sophistication and physical slapstick. Just as Mae Busch is most associated with the role of Mrs. Hardy, Anita is probably the best-remembered Mrs. Laurel -- though she played the role only twice (most memorably in Blotto). She retired at the ripe old age of 25 to raise a family, though she was to make occasional screen appearances throughout the thirties (as in SWISS MISS and A CHUMP AT OXFORD) before her final screen appearance in 1943.
